The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is offering a popup licensing office for counties that do not have a driver licensing regional office. Events are happening this month in Fleming, Lewis, Bath and Morgan counties. These popups will give county residents the same benefits a regional office would, such as upgrading to a REAL ID license, updating names and addresses, and renewals.

Project coordinator Terry Sebastian said Kentucky has 93 counties without a driver licensing regional office.

“The transportation cabinet and this administration works with each of the county judges in those 93 counties to ensure that we offer this mobile, remote service to residents in those counties. The popup program is unique in that it can offer every service that a regional office across the state offers except for driver testing,” said Sebastian.

Sebastian also said appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made online.

“We offer 36 appointments for each of the events. Now, some of the counties, we max out at 36 right away, some other counties, we may balance anywhere from 20 to 25; that depends on the need at that moment,” said Sebastian.

Officials noted that walk-ins are accepted, though there is no guarantee and there may be a wait time.

The popup will be coming to Lewis County on September 21 at the Lewis County Fiscal Court’s third floor meeting room, September 12 at the Fleming County Public Library and Johnson County Fiscal Court, Bath County Ag Center on September 13, and the Morgan County Fiscal Court on September 14.

Appointments and more information can be found on the transportation cabinet’s website.
