The air quality in the eastern Kentucky region has worsened recently, bringing with it several health concerns.
Wildfire smoke has made its way to the commonwealth, creating a visible haze and lowering regional air quality.
Morehead and the surrounding areas are in the red and considered to be unhealthy according to the US Air Quality Index. The region has an AQI of 165, with a healthy index being between 0 and 50.
Those with heart or lung disease, older-adults, and children are recommended to take steps to limit their exposure. Everyone is advised to shorten the amount of active time spent outdoors.
The warning is for much of the Appalachian region, including Morgan, Menifee, Fleming, Bath, and Carter counties.
