Morehead State Public Radio’s 2023 Spring Fundraiser and Membership Drive is scheduled for March 27 – 31. New listeners of MSPR are invited to become members and current members are asked to renew their spring or yearly membership during the drive.

“The number of members who support MSPR help to maintain our grant funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB),” said Paul Hitchcock, MSPR general manager. “Our ability to raise funds and increase our membership are important to meet criteria in receiving grants to purchase national programming such as All Things Considered, Morning Edition, The World, and World Café.”

The CPB provides Community Service Grants to non-commercial radio and television stations with significant public service programming to their communities. The grants help stations expand their work in educational, news, public affairs, or other programming. Qualified stations must meet criteria for grant funding, including local fundraising and memberships.

An emphasis on local and regional news continues to be an important function of MSPR. Equally important is MSPR’s commitment to provide hands-on training and learning opportunities to Morehead State University work-study students year-round.

“An important part of our mission is to provide hands-on student learning opportunities, award-winning local news, and to preserve this region’s cultural heritage with programming that is educational, informative and entertaining,” said Hitchcock.

Financial gifts to Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY) may be made online at: www.wmky.org. Gift and pledge forms are available with payroll deduction as an option for Morehead State University employees.

Financial gifts to MSPR will support student work-studies, programming and operations. An option is also available on the online form to designate gifts to MSPR’s Enhancement Fund, providing scholarships to qualified students studying at Morehead State University.

“MSPR’s Enhancement Fund was established by a longtime supporter of WMKY. Listeners can choose to contribute to the MSPR Fund for student work-studies and local programming, or to the MSPR Enhancement Fund for student scholarships,” noted Hitchcock.

Supporters to MSPR with a gift of $60.00 or more can choose to receive a microphone-design, short sleeve T-shirt.

“We introduced these shirts last fall, so we’re excited to make these shirts available once again as a thank you gift for supporting Morehead State Public Radio,” Hitchcock said.

WMKY serves more than twenty counties throughout eastern Kentucky from the campus of Morehead State University. Listeners can enjoy WMKY at 90.3FM, online (www.wmky.org), by phone app, or smart speaker (“Play WMKY”).
