Volleyball Strives to Keep Up Winning Momentum at SIUE This Weekend

Morehead State volleyball volleyball strives to remain unbeaten early on in the Ohio Valley Conference race when the Eagles visit the Cougars of SIUE this weekend. The teams square off Friday at 7 p.m. ET and Saturday at 3 p.m.

Both teams bring identical 6-7 overall marks, as the Eagles won both their league matches versus newcomer Lindenwood last weekend. SIUE split at Eastern Illinois.

Both matches can be seen live on ESPN+.

NOTABLE
- Senior setter Bridget Bessler increased her career assist total to 3,333 by handing out 82 helpers last weekend versus Lindenwood. Bessler is now fourth on the career assists list in program history. She needs 276 to pass Rachel Messmer (1997-00) into third place.

- Sophomore middle Irene Wogenstahl earned OVC Defensive Player of the Week last week with her 11-block effort Saturday against Lindenwood. Wongenstahl also added two total turnaways Friday for 13 total blocks on the weekend, 1.63 per set. Coming into the match Saturday, She had totaled 25 block assists on the season but had nine alone, or 36 percent of her previous season total.

- Outside hitter M.E. Hargan is the top freshman in the OVC in kills per set. The Elizabethtown, Ky., native is averaging 2.68 terminations per stanza and has five double-digit kill matches. She had 25 total kills last weekend, with 10 on Friday and a career-high 15 on Saturday versus Lindenwood.

- Senior outside hitter Abby Hulsman surpassed 700 career kills last weekend, nw with 701. She leads the Eagles with 2.86 kills per set to rank ninth in the OVC.

- Sophomore right-side hitter Maycie Welborn ranks right behind Hulsman with 2.85 kills per set, or 10th in the league.

- The Eagles were 4-4 in OVC road matches a season ago but went a perfect 8-0 on the road during the spring 2021 OVC-only season. In the past three seasons, MSU is 17-7 on the road versus OVC foes.
