Trailing 2-0 in the OVC Championship match Saturday, Morehead State Beach Volleyball dug deep in front of an energetic and packed crowd at Fazoli's Breadstick Beach. But, in the end it came down the final match where the Eagles ultimately fell in the third set 15-13 as the Eagles fell 3-2 to hand UT Martin the conference title.
Absorbing straight-set defeats at Nos. 4-5, Morehead State rallied as No. 1 pair Olivia Lohmeier and Allison Whitten prevailed 21-16, 21-18. At No. 2, Bella Williams and Olivia Montelisciani also tied the match 2-2 with a 22-20, 21-14 triumph.
On court three, Anya Reinhard and Margaret Musselman battled and led for a majority of their third set after trading the first two, 14-21, 21-17. In the end though, the Skyhawks scored the final points to claim the title.
Lohmeier and Whitten, along with Reinhard and Musselman, earned spots on the all-tournament team.
Morehead State finished the season with a 12-11 record and a 3-5 mark in league matches. With their win today, Lohmeier (53) added on to her career program record for flight wins. Whitten finished the season with a 51-13 career mark, the record for wining percentage.
