Eagles Outpaced by Racers in Saturday Matinee

MSU Athletics

The Eagles struggled from the floor throughout the day as they fell to in-state rival Murray State on Saturday, 79-44.

Jada Claude led the scoring for the Eagles, putting up 17 points, achieving double-figure scoring for the seventh straight game. Terri Smith added 11 points of her own, connecting on a trio of three-point baskets.

The Eagles stayed with the Racers through the first half on the strength of Smith and Claude, who combined to account for 17 of Morehead State's 25 first half points. Smith did her damage in the first quarter, scoring eight points while Claude was saddled with foul trouble, but Claude came back with a vengeance in the second quarter, scoring nine points over a six minute stretch.

Despite the strong efforts from Morehead State's top two leading scorers, the Eagles still trailed at halftime, 38-25. A 14-0 run to end the 3rd ended the hopes of a Morehead State comeback.

Next up, Morehead State wraps up their road trip when they head to Nashville, Tenn. for a rematch with Tennessee State on Monday. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 PM ET.
