MSU Athletics

Morehead State volleyball's Olivia Lohmeier, Bridget Bessler and Abby Hulsman have been chosen to the preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference volleyball team, while the defending conference champions have been voted to repeat the feat this fall.

The Eagles garnered 17 first-place votes to handily be the preseason favorites. MSU also led the conference in preseason individual selections.

One of the most highly rewarded individuals in program history, Lohmeier will seek to become the first player in program history to earn three OVC Player of the Year honors. She was tabbed the league's top player during the spring 2021 campaign, while also being named All-American by VolleyMag.com for the third time. Lohmeier, a Cincinnati native, was also selected Honorable Mention All-American by the AVCA. She became the ninth player in program history to surpass 1,500 career kills with a 14-kill effort versus No. 6 Florida. She ranked 20th in the NCAA in points per set (4.99), 25th in kills per set (4.33), 52th in points (329.5), and 56th in kills (286) with all totals leading the OVC.

Lohmeier currently holds a 31-match streak of double-figure kills dating back to the 2019 season. She ended the 2020-21 season ranked ninth in program history with 1,509 career kills.

Bessler, a native of Hebron, Ky., was named AVCA Honorable Mention All-Midwest Region as well as First-Team All-OVC. She also ranked 10th in the NCAA in assists per set (11.32) and paced the OVC with 747 assists. Bessler also led Morehead State to rank 37th in the NCAA in team hitting efficiency (.251). She recorded 30+ assists in 18 of 19 matches on the season, surpassing 40 or more assists in seven matches. She ended the 2020-21 season ranked 12th in program history in career assists with 1,923.

Hulsman, also from Cincinnati, was named Second Team All-OVC as well as to the 2020-21 OVC All-Tournament Team. She recorded 128 kills (2.51 per set) on the season, registering a .275 hitting efficiency.

Morehead State opens its 2021 fall campaign on Aug. 27 against Georgia at the Bulldogs' tournament in Athens, Ga.
