Five Football Eagles Named to Phil Steele's Postseason All-PFL Teams

MSU Athletics

Five Morehead State football student-athletes have been named to Phil Steele's 2019 postseason all-Pioneer League Teams.

Junior defensive lineman Vaughn Taylor Jr., and sophomore return man Ian Holder were first-team picks (both players also made the first-team in the PFL's own postseason lists). Junior wide receiver Landon Hurst and senior offensive lineman Josh Poe earned second team nods, while junior Andrew Foster made the third team as a punter.

Taylor Jr., from Washington, D.C., led the PFL in tackles for loss with 17.0 and tied for a PFL-best 5.5 sacks. He also led MSU in quarterback hurries with seven. Taylor Jr., was named PFL Defensive Player of the Week three times during the year, a record high for an Eagle player since the program joined the league.

Holder, a native of Mount Airy, N.C., finished second in the league in kickoff return average at 27.1 yards. Against Davidson, he returned five kickoffs for 186 yards that was topped off by a 91-yard touchdown run. As a receiver, he finished second on the team in receptions with 34 to go along with 398 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Hurst, originally from Shelbyville, Ky., led the Eagles in receptions (53), receiving yards (642) and receiving touchdowns (six). He tied for first in the PFL in receptions in a single game, catching 11 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown against Drake. He also finished fourth in the PFL in receptions per game with 4.4 grabs. He was similarly named to the PFL's own second-team list.

Poe, from Salyersville, Ky., also made the PFL's postseason list as an honorable mention. Over the past three years, he has started more than 30 games at both tackle and guard. This past year, he started all 12 games for the Eagles and was part of a unit that posted an average of 401.6 yards of total offense per contest.

Foster, from Knoxville, Tenn., was the PFL leader in punting average with 41.8 yards per attempt. He had eight punts of 50+ yards with a season-long of 60. He downed 23 boots inside the opponents' 20-yard line and only had six touchbacks on the year. As a kicker, he went 9-for-11 on field goals including a perfect 6-for-6 from 40-49 yards. Foster also set the MSU record for consecutive PATs made, hitting 38 straight. He was placed on the PFL's postseason list as a member of the second team.
