Senior Jarrett Mattingly clocked the fourth fastest 8K time in program history Saturday to lead the Morehead State cross country teams at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
Traditionally one of the fastest courses the Eagles compete on, Mattingly covered the ground this time around in 24:17.3, good enough for 22nd place among a gigantic field of 373 finishers.
Senior Shelby Watkins paced the women's team with a time of 18:26.3 in the 5K race.
On the men's side, freshman Garrett Watts turned in a solid effort in finishing in 24:51.4. Junior Cody Chism rounded out the top three efforts at 25:48.5.
For the Eagle women, senior Alison Chinn was not far behind Watkins, crossing the line in 18:30.6. Junior Maggie Kiper was third on the squad with a time of 18:54.0.
Both teams are off now until Oct. 19 when they travel to the Evansville (Ind.) Invitational.
