Lohmeier Secures Fourth Offensive Player of the Week Award

MSU Athletics

For the fourth time this season, sophomore outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The honor marks the sixth time in her career that Lohmeier has claimed OVC Weekly honors and the second straight year she's claimed an honor in the season's final week.

The accolade marks the highest individual award win total for a Morehead State player since 2015 when Merideth Jewell claimed five OVC Newcomer of the Week honors. Lohmeier also stands as the first Eagle since Ellie Roberson in 2012 to win multiple Offensive Player of the Week awards when Roberson took home five awards.

Lohmeier slammed home a team-high 34 kills on the weekend, averaging nearly five kills per set, settling in at 4.86 per set. In taking 77 total swings, she committed just five errors, putting together a .377 hitting efficiency from the outside. She chipped in six digs and four blocks on the weekend to add to her offensive totals as she totaled 37.5 points on the week.

To open the weekend, Lohmeier produced her highest kill count, registering 18 kills versus Tennessee State. Her 18 kills came at a .311 attack efficiency as she committed just four errors on 45 total swings. Lohmeier led all attackers in the match in kills while falling just shy in total swings as Tennessee State's Julia Pierson took 49.

In the regular season's final contest, Lohmeier continued her weekend's hot start, generating another 16 kills against Belmont. She was the only attacker in double-figures on the afternoon as she connected at a .469 clip. Lohmeier also took a shot at deterring attacks, collecting three total blocks, including one of the solo variety.

For the year, Lohmeier leads the Eagles with 380 kills, producing the most terminations by an Eagle attacker since 2016 when a pair of players surpasses 350 kills (Merideth Jewell [431] and Sydney Schuler [360]). Her 380 kills and 3.62 kills per set both rank third in the conference with both totals falling behind a pair of attackers that have attempted more than 125 additional swings than Lohmeier. Lohmeier also ranks ninth in the league in hitting percentage, posting a .260 clip as she's committed just 122 errors in 994 swings.

Lohmeier and the Eagles begin postseason play after claiming the No. 3 seed for the OVC Tournament. Morehead State battles the No. 6 seed Southeast Missouri in Thursday's opening round. First serve from Clarksville, Tenn. is set for 12 p.m. ET with the match being streamed on ESPN 3.
