Cross Country Wraps Up Season with School Record and Five Women's Top 10 Times

Sophomore Sierra Poppell concluded her breakout season with the Morehead State women's cross country team by setting the 6K school record Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional, and she was joined by four others who ran top-10 program times as the women's and men's team competed against the region's top squads.

Poppell was 27th among 245 runners, crossing the finish line in 20:49.5 and toping MSU Athletic Hall of Famer Karen Lutes' record of 21:25.6. She helped Morehead State to its highest-ever NCAA Regional finish at 15th.

Senior Justin Moakler paced the men's squad, which finished 18th among 37 teams. He was 42nd with a time of 31:06.5.

Shelby Watkins' finish of 21:39.9 is now the third-best 6K time in program history, while Gloria Corona-Luna now owns the fourth top-time at 21:51.3. Caitlin Cunningham covered the course in 22:04.1, which is now fifth on the 6K top efforts chart.

Alison Chinn rounded out the top performances for the Eagles, finishing in 22:15.1 to come in seventh on the chart.

Also competing for the men was Jordan Carrington (31:58.3), Jarrett Mattingly (32:08.1), Aaron Wier (32:19.8), Shane Rigsby (32:47.2), Jackson Cooper (33:07.8) and Cody Chism (33:13.3).
