Rice Named OVC Women's Golfer of the Week

MSU Athletics

Morehead State junior Katie Rice has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the period of Sept. 10-16. The weekly honor is Rice's first this school year and the third of her career.

Rice, a native of Oxnard, Calif., finished sixth out of 70 individuals at the William & Mary Invitational with a three-round 221. She opened with a 79 at the Plantation Golf Course, but tallied a career-best 69 in round two and 73 over the final 18 holes.

"I'm thrilled that Katie shot a personal-best 69 and followed that up with a very solid 73," Head Coach Stephanie Barker said. "Katie has worked hard on her game and mindset, which is really paying off."

Rice ranks second on the team with a 75.8 stroke average through five rounds. The top-10 performance was her seventh in just over two years with the Eagles.

"Katie competed well this summer and has proven she can get the ball in the hole from just about anywhere," Barker said. "It's really fun to see her continue to improve, capitalize on her good shots and be able to work with just about any situation."

Morehead State fired a three-round 904, which placed second out of 13 teams. The Eagles began the event with a 307, but posted a 297 over the middle 18 holes and 300 in the final round. The course played at a par of 72 and yardage of 5,948.

MSU is now idle until Sept. 28-30 when it travels to Glencoe, Ala., for the Chris Banister Golf Classic. Jacksonville State will host the 54-hole event at the Silver Lakes Golf Course.
