Soccer Stays Undefeated With Tie At Ball State

The Morehead State soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit late in the first half to earn a 2-2 tie with Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State on Sunday afternoon (August 31) at the Briner Sports Complex. The Eagles move to 2-0-2, while the Cardinals are now 2-1-1.

Morehead State junior defender Kimberly Golden trimmed the deficit to one on her first goal of the season in the 44th minute. Ball State held a 2-1 advantage at intermission. Both teams took four shots, two corner kicks and committed four fouls during the opening half.

After 45 scoreless minutes, MSU sophomore forward Angela Black tied the contest with 1:15 remaining in the second half on her second score of the campaign. The equalizer came off a throw-in from senior forward Jade Flory, who was credited with her first assist in 2014.

Morehead State and Ball State went back and forth during two 10-minute overtime periods, but neither club found the back of the net. MSU managed a 4-2 shots edge in extra time.

The Eagles registered a 16-10 advantage in shots and 10-5 upper hand in attempts on goal. The Cardinals posted an 8-7 edge in corner kicks, while the teams were whistled for a combined 19 infractions. Black paced Morehead State with four total shots, including three on goal.

BSU sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Dennis and MSU junior keeper Elizabeth Floyd played all 110 minutes. Dennis notched eight saves, while Floyd stopped three shots on net.

Senior forward Nicole Pembleton recorded Ball State's first goal, while sophomore forward Abbey Fiser gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute.

Morehead State will entertain Sun Belt Conference opponent Appalachian State in its home opener on Friday (September 5) at 6 p.m.
