MSU Athletics

Morehead State golfers Katie Rice and LinneaScholin have been named National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars for the 2013-14 school year.

The list honors 664 women's collegiate golfers at the Division I, II and III levels. It recognizes individuals with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 (or better) who have played in at least 50 percent of their school's varsity tournaments.

Rice, a government major from Oxnard, Calif., carries a 3.80 GPA into her junior year. In 29 rounds as a sophomore, she recorded a 77.8 stroke average, three top-10 finishes and low round of 73.

Scholin, a mathematics major from Sollentuna, Sweden, owns a 3.88 GPA heading into her junior year. In 28 rounds as a sophomore, she registered a 78.5 stroke average, three top-10 performances and low round of 71.

"I am very proud of Katie and Linnea for earning this extraordinary award and the way they represent Morehead State," Head Coach Stephanie Barker said. "Their hard work in the classroom, on the course and in all their endeavors has really paid off. This is one of the toughest awards to earn in college athletics."

Morehead State has placed in the top four at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship six straight years. Rice (10th) and Scholin (T-20th) both finished in the top half of the 2014 event. The Eagles open their fall schedule on Sept. 7 at the Louisville Fall Kick-Off.
