Three Baseball Eagles Named To CPL Select Team

MSU Athletics

Morehead State outfielder Brandon Rawe, catcher Chris Robinson and right-hander Craig Pearcy have been tabbed to the Coastal Plain League Select Team. The squad will face the USA Collegiate National Team on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET in Cary, N.C.

"Congratulations to Brandon, Chris and Craig on this terrific honor," Head Coach Mike McGuire said. "We are very proud of all three young men. They made significant contributions for us during the spring season, and it's nice to see that carry over to the summer campaign."

Rawe earned First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference accolades from two organizations in 2014. He ranked among the league leaders in doubles (1st, 21), hits (2nd, 98), batting average (3rd, .390), total bases (3rd, 149), slugging percentage (5th, .594), home runs (T-7th, 10).

A senior-to-be from Matthews, N.C., Rawe shattered MSU's single-season hits record. He ranked among all Division I players in hits (4th), total bases (8th), doubles (16th) and slugging percentage (28th). The right-handed hitter also posted a team-best 30 multi-hit efforts.

Robinson, a senior-to-be from Uxbridge, Ontario, picked up Second-Team All-OVC honors this past year. He ranked first on the team in stolen bases (8), second in hits (75), third in batting average (.332) and third in RBI (40). The righty also tallied a .986 fielding percentage.

Pearcy, a junior-to-be from Louisville, Ky., recorded a team-high eight saves in 2014. He managed a 5-2 record in 23 appearances with a squad-best 3.38 ERA. Opponents hit just .255 against the reliever, who yielded 20 walks and 54 hits while striking out 55 in 55.2 innings.

Rawe is spending his summer with the Florence RedWolves in Florence, S.C. Robinson and Pearcy both play for the Gastonia Grizzlies in Gastonia, N.C. Robinson leads the circuit with a .426 batting average (through games of 6/20), while Rawe owns a league-best seven doubles.

The CPL is one of many collegiate summer leagues across the country. The selection committee included league coaches, league officials and several professional baseball scouts. The CPL Select Team roster includes three catchers, eight infielders, seven outfielders and eight pitchers.

The 2014 Eagles eclipsed 2013 totals for wins (29 compared to 16), OVC victories (16 to 10), home wins (13 to five) and road wins (15 to six). The 16 league wins are a program-best. MSU's 16-14 OVC finish also marked just its third .500-or-better conference record in the past 20 years.
