MSU Players Named To OVC Baseball Teams

MSU Athletics

Morehead State junior right fielder Brandon Rawe, junior catcher Chris Robinson and freshman pitcher Luke Humphreys have earned spots on the All-Ohio Valley Conference baseball teams. Rawe picks up first-team accolades, while Robinson is a second-team selection and Humphreys is an All-Freshman squad member.

Rawe is the first Morehead State player since 2011 to earn First-Team All-League honors. He has 94 base knocks this season, which currently leads the OVC and ranks third nationally. He set the MSU single-season hit record last weekend versus Jacksonville State.

"I felt like Brandon could have the type of year he's had when we brought him with us from Louisburg College," Head Coach Mike McGuire said. "He works hard at his craft of hitting. We do not have the type of record-setting year we've had without Brandon in the line-up."

A native of Matthews, N.C., Rawe leads the conference in doubles (20) and ranks third in batting average (.400). He paces all league players in batting average against OVC competition (.442). He ranks fifth nationally in total bases (144), 10th in batting average and 14th in doubles.

Rawe also leads Morehead State with 10 home runs, including three in an OVC game versus Austin Peay on May 4. He paces the Eagles with 29 multi-hit games, including 16 with three-or-more base knocks. He has produced eight multi-RBI contests and holds the team's longest hitting streak this season at 18 games.

Robinson ranks second on the team and leads all OVC catchers with 73 hits while producing a .343 batting average. He has driven in 39 runs and leads the squad with seven stolen bases. He ranks third on the team with 24 multi-hit games and second with 10 multi-RBI efforts. Robinson recorded an MSU single-game high five hits at OVC regular-season champion Southeast Missouri on March 21.

A native of Uxbridge, Ontario, Robinson has thrown out 25 percent of would-be base stealers and posted a .985 fielding percentage.

"I am glad Chris is being recognized as an All-OVC catcher," McGuire said. "Brandon (Rawe) has received a lot of recognition for his offense, and Chris hits behind him in the order, so for Chris to drive in that many runs is a testament to his hard work and determination to help our team in any way."

Hailing from Dickson, Tenn., Humphreys has posted a 4-2 overall record, including a 4-1 mark against OVC teams. The right-hander leads the pitching staff in ERA and ranks second with 61 strikeouts. Humphreys nearly posted a 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and opponents have hit only .255 against him.

He is just the second MSU pitcher to earn a spot on the All-Freshman team since the league began awarding it in 2006.

"Luke became our Friday starter after our first conference series and has really solidified our pitching staff," McGuire said. "He has been very consistent and given us solid starts to begin each series."

The annual Ohio Valley Conference Tournament is this week in Jackson, Tenn. Fifth-seeded Morehead State opens against fourth-seeded SIU Edwardsville on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
