Men's Tennis Claims OVC Win

MSU Athletics

Morehead State's men's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 victory against Eastern Illinois at MSU's Sadler Courts Saturday afternoon (March 15).

The Eagles (5-2/1-0 OVC) defeated the Panthers (3-5/0-1) for the sixth straight season. MSU lost the doubles point but rallied for wins at Nos. 1, 2,3 and 5 singles.

"We were mentally tough today. I really like the makeup of our team, and I feel we will only get better as the conference season moves ahead,” said MSU Head Coach Kevin Fulton.

The teams contested just two doubles matches, and EIU won 8-4 on both courts.

In singles, freshman Jack Swindells topped Moritz Kandt 6-4, 7-5 on court one. Sophomore Giovanni Samaha got the better of Ryan Henderson, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2. On court three, senior Ji Hoon Heo beat Grant Thompson 6-2, 6-4.

Senior David Clifford got the fourth point with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Rui Silva at No. 5. Sophomore Nick Mercer fell in a three-set affair to Robert Skolik on court four, and freshman Gabriel Ruiz succumbed in a three-setter to Kevin Bauman at No. 6.
