The Stroke Care Network presented St. Claire Regional’s Stroke Care Program a “Rising Star” award at its annual summit on June 27 in Lexington (KY).
The award recognizes SCR’s progress towards accreditation as a Primary Stroke Center. SCR is an affiliate hospital in the Stroke Care Network created by UK Comprehensive and Norton Healthcare to develop the first community-based stroke program in the region.
At the Network’s annual summit, Dr. Michael Dobbs, Associate Chief Medical Officer, UK HealthCare and director of the Stroke Care Network, hailed St. Claire Regional for their performance and commitment to becoming a Primary Stroke Center.
"St. Claire Regional’s commitment to quality improvement and coordination of resources to provide their patients with the highest quality stroke care is to be commended," Dr. Dobbs said. "Everyone's goal is to provide the best care for stroke patients as close to home as possible and St. Claire Regional’s efforts embody that principle."
“There are 24 hospitals in the stroke network at this time, and 4 awarded at the summit meeting. We were recognized for rapidly making meaningful progress toward accreditation as a Primary Stroke Center. If we continue to collaborate and educate, SCR will reach accreditation in the near future,” said Dr. Stephen Damron, SCR physician and medical director of the Stroke Care Program.
Primary Stroke Center Certification recognizes hospitals that demonstrate their program meets critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.
The Rising Star award recognizes the progress made with SCR’s Stroke Care Program and the commitment of its stroke team members. St. Claire Regional will be taking the next step by applying for Primary Stroke Center Certification in 2015.
