Morehead To Host SOAR Health Forum

Invivo Wellness

SOAR will partner with the Centers for Disease Control next month to host four meetings in eastern Kentucky on improving healthy living in the region.

The Shaping Our Appalachian Region Health Impact Series will be held in Somerset, Hazard, Paintsville and Morehead. The Rowan County session is scheduled August 6th at 10:00am at the Morehead Conference Center.

Chuck Fluharty is the interim executive director of SOAR. He says the head of the CDC, Dr. Thomas Frieden, will attend all the meetings.

“This is about listening to the region’s leaders and citizens and then acting upon what occurs as a result of that and we could not have a better federal partner, as you know, than CDC in this.” –Chuck Fluharty

Fluharty says one of the goals of SOAR is to reduce chronic health problems like cancer, diabetes and obesity in eastern Kentucky. He says the forums will help leaders in the region develop plans to help accomplish those goals.
