Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and Congressman Hal Rogers announced on Monday (March 24) the formation of a 15-member executive committee to oversee their joint SOAR initiative. That’s the “Shaping Our Appalachian Region” effort they introduced last December.
During a press conference at Hazard Community College, Beshear said the panel will include House Speaker Greg Stumbo, Senate President Robert Stivers, and leaders from local government and the private sector.
The governor says ten working groups have also been created to focus on “quality of life” issues like agriculture, health, education and training and business recruitment. Beshear says the SOAR office will be headquartered in Pikeville.
