Lexington Veterans Administration Hospital Under Review

University of Kentucky College of Medicine

Lexington's Veterans Administration Hospital is in the midst of a two week internal audit.  VA Spokeswoman DestiStimes says it's part of a national review called for in April.

National news reports have focused on delays in appointments at some VA facilities with life-impacting consequences.

Stimes believes the audit will find local employees are following the federal agency's national scheduling guidance.

"We treat veterans as individuals with clinical leadership, reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing patient needs on a daily basis.  We look at the electronic wait list every day,” said Stimes.

Stimes says the Lexington VA hospital is reviewing the information from the wait list which led to new services being offered such as Wednesday night and Saturday clinics.  She says doctors at the facility strive to see new patients within two weeks.  40 thousand patients were seen at the hospital last year.
