The Kentucky House of Representatives has approved a bill that redraws legislative districts for the House and Senate. The vote was 83 to 17. Democrat Sannie Overly of Paris, who serves as Majority Caucus Chair in the House, supported the measure.
“We have a bi-partisan map and we have a map that is constitutional, and that is the job that we were charged to do.” --Sannie Overly
Republican Ryan Quarles of Georgetown voted against the plan.
“Spaghetti must be on the menu this week because that’s what Georgetown looks like under this plan. Instead of respecting my community’s best interests, Scott County was carved-up not just twice, but three times in illogical and incoherent ways.” --Ryan Quarles
The bill now heads to the Senate which is expected to vote on it Friday. The districts had to be altered to conform to the latest Census data.
