Statewide Tree Trimming Cutback

BGE

One of the ways the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is likely to compensate for a huge increase in spending for snow and ice removal last winter is by cutting back on tree and brush trimming this summer.

Nancy Albright told state legislators last week in Frankfort that the Cabinet shelled out 75-million dollars to clear roads during the cold weather months.

Albright says that’s a lot more than usual and will require reductions in other parts of the transportation budget.

“You will not necessarily notice it, until they’re in the middle of the road or we do run into issues with leaves on the roadway in the fall. So, that is one thing that tends to get pushed back during tight budget times.” –Nancy Albright

Albright says the Cabinet will probably also spend less on traffic signals and sign repair.
