KY Virtual Library Names Director

Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education

Ilona N. Burdette is the new director of the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL), a program of the Council on Postsecondary Education.

Burdette comes to the Council from St. Catharine College, where she served 17 years as director of library services. Prior to this role, she spent three years as director of the Marion County Public Library in Lebanon, Ky.

“KYVL went live a few months after I started at St. Catharine College,” Burdette said, “and was of central importance to the library’s ability to provide affordable, high-quality resources to our students and faculty.

“In my new role, I hope to make sure more students, educators and individuals across the Commonwealth are aware of the wealth of resources available to them through the Virtual Library, and to improve ease of access for all users.”

Burdette holds a master’s of library science from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor’s degree from Colby College in Maine.

Since its launch in 1999, the Kentucky Virtual Library has provided access to high-quality library and information resources to Kentucky citizens through its member libraries, who pay lower costs through the consortium. Participating members include the state’s public universities and colleges, K-12 schools and public libraries; independent colleges and universities; the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives; various special libraries; and a number of private K-12 schools across the state.
