Public Invited to MCTC President Candidate Forums

WTVQ

The community is invited to attend scheduled forums on Thursday and Friday (Nov. 6-7) with the three candidates interviewing for the presidency of Maysville Community and Technical College.

Originally, four candidates were in contention for the job.  One candidate, Mark O. Kinlaw, vice president for Instruction and Support Services, Robeson Community College, Lumberton, N.C. has withdrawn his candidacy due to personal reasons, according to officials at MCTC.

The final candidates are: Jennifer S. Gentry, vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement, Virginia Community College System, Richmond, Va.; Juston C. Pate, chief academic officer, Maysville Community and Technical College, Maysville; Stephen M. Vacik, president, Colby Community College, Colby, Kan.

A selection committee comprised of Kentucky Community and Technical College System President Michael B. McCall, Charles Calvert, president MCTC Board of Directors, six MCTC representatives, two presidents from other KCTCS campuses; and KCTCS Chancellor Dr. Jay Box will hire the new president/CEO.

In addition to the MCTC campus, the president/CEO oversees operations at the Rowan (county) Campus, Licking Valley Campus in Cynthiana, Montgomery (county) Extension,  and Paris Extension.

The change in leadership was put into motion in May when current President/CEO Dr. Ed Story announced his plans to retire effective Dec. 31.

Each candidate will be interviewed at the Maysville campus, with ITV broadcasting the forum to the Morehead, Cynthiana, Mount Sterling and Paris locations.

According to MCTC officials, community members at all locations will have the opportunity to ask the candidate(s) questions.

The interviews take place Thursday, Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m., beginning with Pate, followed by Vacik at 2:30 p.m. On Friday, Nov. 7, Gentry will be interviewed at 1:30 p.m.
