MSU signs Space Science transfer agreement with ACTC

Morehead State University and Ashland Community and Technical College signed an agreement Friday (Oct. 17) to establish a transfer program in Space Science.

In the 2+2 transfer program, students will complete two years at ACTC before transferring into the Bachelor of Science degree program in Space Science at MSU. The agreement lists the specific ACTC and MSU courses needed for the bachelor’s degree, with freshman and sophomore level courses to be completed at ACTC and the junior and senior courses completed at MSU.

MSU’s Space Science Center is a division of the Department of Earth and Space Science in the College of Science and Technology and houses Morehead State University's Program of Distinction, Space Science.

ACTC and MSU will collaborate on the development and delivery of the required courses so that the program can be completed in a reasonable time. The two institutions also will review the agreement regularly to make sure the course content reflects industry developments, employment trends and accreditation guidelines.

Dr. Wayne D. Andrews, MSU president, and Dr. Kay Adkins, ACTC president and CEO, signed the agreement in the Rocky Adkins Pavilion on the Technology Drive campus.

“Space Science is an exciting high-tech field of the future,” said Dr. Adkins.  “This collaboration with MSU will provide our students with an additional option for continuing their education in the region.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with ACTC to help more students succeed in college. We are answering the challenge to remove barriers which make it difficult for many ACTC alumni to finish a four-year degree,” said Dr. Andrews. “Our Space Science program is one of five in the United States to offer a bachelor’s degree in space science and has some outstanding students enrolled. We value our partnership with ACTC and look forward to making it simpler for students to convert their associate degrees and two additional years of study into a bachelor’s degree.”
