New High-Tech Business in Morehead to Partner with MSU's Space Science Center

Morehead State University

Nearly 30 new jobs are coming to Rowan County thanks to Morehead State University’s Space Science Center.

Rajant Corporation says it will invest nearly 800-thousand dollars in a project with MSU to create wireless networks in space that have commercial and military applications.

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear was in Morehead on Monday (March 30) to make the announcement.

“Several years ago we invested in the Space Science Center here at Morehead State University. Today we’re announcing a company that is coming here and creating 28 new jobs, good paying jobs, because that science center is here and they’re gonna’ be partnering with that science center on doing experiments in space.”

Rajant will locate in a 9,600 square foot building on Main Street in Morehead. The firm, which is based in Philadelphia, specializes in providing mobile wireless broadband connectivity.

Congressman Hal Rogers is counting on the Space Science Center at Morehead State University to be the catalyst for thousands of jobs. The Somerset Republican was also in Morehead for the Rajant announcement.

“It could be the beginning of a new day. I’ve been pushing for these high-tech industries to come into our region because now with cable, internet cable and broadband, we’re gonna’ be able to attract these types of small, new, state-of-the-art industries.”

Rogers says it’s great to see the investment in the Space Science Center starting to pay economic dividends for the region.
