An Elliottville man accused of shooting his daughter’s boyfriend in the back will serve 10 years in prison.

61-year old Teddy Johnson, was accused of murdering 24-year old Jimmy Adkins, of Emerson, in august of 2016.  The two were reportedly involved in a domestic argument, which led to Adkins’ death.

A Rowan County jury deliberated until 11 p.m. on Wednesday night before finding Johnson guilty of the lesser charge of second-degree Manslaughter, a Class C felony.

The jury debated the sentencing phase of the trial Thursday, recommending the harshest sentenced allowed for the charge.

Judge Beth Maze will sentence Johnson on February 6th.
