Safety Improvements to Begin on KY 36 in Bath County

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is beginning an $850,000 highway safety improvement project along KY 36 in northwest Bath County.

The project involves replacing more than 50 drainage pipes under KY 36, paving and guardrail installation, which will allow for wider shoulders and improved crash recovery.

Work will take place on KY 36 between the 1 and 8 mile markers, from Main Street at Sharpsburg to a half mile east of Powers Branch Road. Crews with Frederick and May Construction Company expect to install road work signs the week of Jan. 23, and have pipe replacement work under way by Feb. 1.

During construction, the roadway will be one-lane each day where crews are working and will be restricted to a 9-foot width limit. Work will take place now through summer, with a final completion date of Oct. 15. Larger pipe replacements this summer will require temporary closures and detours, which will be announced.

Motorists should watch message boards for details. Trucks larger than 9 feet wide should reroute using US 60 or KY 11 and other connecting state routes. A detour will not be posted.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slowdown in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
