The Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Foundation recently recognized its 2020 Physician of the Year award recipient, and honored its 2019 Physician of the Year winner, during a special, virtual event. Muhammad Farhan, MD, of Lexington, who specializes in internal medicine, was presented with the 2020 Physician of the Year award, and Kyle Miller, MD, of Lexington, an emergency room physician, was honored as the 2019 Physician of the Year.
The Foundation annually recognizes one outstanding Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling who demonstrates the core values of reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence. This year’s recipient, Dr. Muhammad Farhan, was nominated by Danielle Watts, a medical staff coordinator at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling.
“Dr. Farhan makes himself available for his patients and the hospital doing everything in his power to provide excellent care and continue to grow in leadership,” said Watts. “Dr. Farhan’s compassion for his patients, his willingness to learn, ask and grow, and his patience with others all make him an ideal candidate for Physician of the Year.”
Dr. Farhan grew up in Pakistan, where he knew even as a child that he would grow up to be a doctor. Eventually, Dr. Farhan was admitted to the Dow Medical College, one of the country’s highest ranking and elite medical schools, where he completed his medical training. His colleagues say he leads with compassion and always strives to provide the best care possible for his patients.
Dr. Miller received the 2019 Physician of the Year award and was nominated by Michelle Reffitt, an emergency room nurse at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling.
“It is easy to tell that Dr. Miller loves what he does,” said Reffitt. “He is always willing to help everyone, whether that be a patient or a staff member or a fellow physician. Dr. Miller is the best provider that we have in the emergency room here at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling.”
Following in his father’s footsteps, Dr. Miller, who grew up in Knoxville, Tenn., joined the medical field out of a deep desire to help others in a personal way that he says no other career path offers. His education and training took him to North Carolina, Illinois, back to Tennessee and even to a tropical island in the western Pacific.
His colleagues say Dr. Miller has certainly helped others during his time at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, where each day he shows care and consideration to patients and fellow employees alike.
