Rowan schools talk masking, teacher burnout

Shayla Ring

Experts in the field of education have been warning leaders for years that shortages can be detrimental to students, educators, and the education system as a whole.  While the pandemic has compounded the issue, administrators say it isn’t a problem locally just yet

In Rowan County a test to stay program is starting to help more students stay in the classroom, but growing numbers may change the situation at any time.

Superintendent John Maxey says right now the district has a solid teaching force.

Meanwhile, COVID positive cases in the commonwealth have risen at an alarming rate over the last few weeks, but things seem to be going well in the local school district.

Rowan County Health officials have reported 168 new positive cases in the last three days.

Maxey says with this in mind mitigation efforts in the classroom will continue for now.

The district did implement a test to stay program, which allows students who have been exposed to remain in the classroom with daily negative tests.
