MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State women's golf started the spring season successfully this weekend as the Eagles bested Bellarmine twice in a match-play format in North Carolina. MSU won 6-0 Sunday and topped the Knights 4-2 on Monday at Longleaf Golf and Family Club in Southern Pines.
The par 72 course traversed 6,682 yards in the Tar Heel State.
On Sunday, MSU took all six matches. Morgan Kennedy bettered Taylor Dunkle 3&1, while Margaret Ulrich handled Raquelle Nelson 7&5. Amelia Greenlee putted past Abigayle Buchanan 6&4, and Tuva Marie Isebakke beat Rozlyn Rooke 5&4. Isabella Wiley bested Geriann Ackerman 3&2, and Claudia Hofmeister rounded out the sweep with a 5&4 triumph against Piper Davis.
Monday's round was a little closer, but MSU still prevailed 4-2. Hofmeister toppled Ackerman 3&1, while Greenlee was the winner against Davis, 4&1. Isebakke defeated Nelson 2UP, and Kennedy dominated her match against Dunkle, winning 5UP. Ulrich fell 3UP, and Wiley lost 1UP.
Wiley and Hofmeister led the field with five birdies apiece, while MSU totaled 20 birdies in the two rounds.
The Eagles are off now until March 1-3 when they travel to Aiken, S.C., for the More Than Golf Invitational.
