Rifle Welcomes Thrine Kane as Assistant Coach

MSU Athletics

Morehead State Rifle has added an eight-time All-American and former Olympian Thrine (pronounced TREE-nah) Kane as a volunteer assistant coach.

"I am pleased to announce that Thrine will be joining the rifle program as assistant coach," said head coach Alan Joseph, who coached Kane at Xavier. "She will add a wide depth of experience to the program."

Kane is an accomplished rifle athlete whose shooting career spans many years. She was an eight-time college All-American - four years in both Air Rifle and Smallbore. She also competed in multiple World Cups and was a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team in Women's 3-Position Rifle.

She played a major role on her college team at Xavier, contributing to NCAA team trophies all four years. Xavier placed second in 2000, fourth in 2001, third in 2002, and second in 2003 in the National Collegiate Rifle Championships. She was a CRCA Academic All-American, the Great America Rifle Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2002 and 2003 and was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in 2001 and 2002.

She also covered the rifle team for the Xavier student newspaper. She was a member of, and then led, the Xavier Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Kane was inducted into the Xavier Hall of Fame in 2009.

Following her collegiate career, she coached the Optimist Acorns Junior Rifle Club of Fairfax, Va., from 2005-18. The Acorns produced numerous Junior Olympic competitors and collegiate athletes during her tenure as coach, including many that went on to international competition and the Olympics. Kane is a USA Shooting Level III Advanced Certified Rifle Coach and is a member of the National Coach Development Staff.

She is also a professionally certified coach from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching, working with individuals to set goals, identify challenges, and create plans to reach success. She is certified in several personality assessments, including Hogan and DiSC.

In addition, Kane spent eleven years in the intelligence community in Washington, DC, where she was an analyst, foreign language program manager, leadership development program manager, instructor, and corporate facilitator. She has worked full-time with group facilitation for the past three years, helping both individuals and work teams identify problems and challenges.

Kane earned a bachelor's degree in international affairs (modern Europe) and Spanish from Xavier in 2003 and earned her Master Degree in German and European Studies from Georgetown University in 2006.
