Rifle Fires Season-Best Score in Defeating Georgia Southern Friday

Firing a season-best aggregate score, the Morehead State rifle team defeated visiting Georgia Southern 4,667-4,413 Friday at Button Rifle Range.

The Eagles' total included a 2,354 Air Rifle scorecard and a 2,313 Smallbore score. Senior Alexa Potts paced the team on both guns, notching a 594 in Air and a 581 in the Smallbore range. Her 193 standing total was a team high.

The Eagles posted the top five Air scores and the best eight Smallbore ledgers. In Air, senior Karly Potts fashioned a 590, while sophomore Erin Diehl tied her personal best with a 588. Sophomore Katie Frye turned in a 588 as well, while fellow sophomore Amber Schifano was not far behind at 587. Along with her career-best 576 in Smallbore, Schifano carded her best-ever combined score of 1163.

Junior Ryan Hinson (581) and freshman Grace Weber (580) reached the 580-or-above mark on Air too. Hinson's kneeling in SB of 198 was a team-best result.

Freshman Bryce Ward re-wrote his career-best tally sheet as well, shooting his best collegiate Smallbore at 578. His 1153 combined tied his best MSU effort. Freshman Elizabeth Plecity's 575 SB score included tying her kneeling personal standard at 192. Freshman Cailey Dahlquist also set a personal best with a 179 in the standing slot in SB.

The two teams will line up again right away on Saturday for another dual match at Button.
