New shopping restrictions, trail closures in Rowan

Rowan County Fiscal Court

Rowan County Judge Executive Harry Clark has signed an executive order with some new steps to help Rowan County fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Friday, Clark spoke to residents via facebook, calling on individuals to stay home, continue social distancing and practice good hygiene.

Clark says only essential travel should take place in Rowan County.  Beginning Saturday, only one person per household will be admitted to local essential businesses.  There is an exemption for single parents who have no childcare available and for those who need assistance.

“If you are out just to be out, stop,” Clark says.  “We do not have a confirmed case yet, but if you think a hanging basket or a bag of mulch is worth risking the health of your family, then please rethink this. No one is immune, and it is your responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us.”

Clark also restricted all foot traffic at and around Lockegee Rock, a popular local hiking destination.   All trails leading to the rock, and within ¼ of a mile near the location have been closed to all foot traffic during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Morehead State University announced on Friday that all athletic property, Eagle Lake and the trails surrounding the lake are also closed.
