Men's Basketball Grinds Out OVC Tournament Win Over SEMO

Sophomore guard Ta'lon Cooper tied his career high with 17 points off the bench, while OVC Freshman of the Year Johni Broome recorded his 11th double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Morehead State men's basketball team grinded out a 61-54 win over seventh-seeded Southeast Missouri at the Ford Center late Wednesday night.

Cooper played 32 minutes, shooting 6-of-12 while also added three assists. The Eagles also got the 21st double-figure scoring game from junior guard DeVon Cooper with 12 points, including all six of his free throws. He has now hit 16 consecutive free throws. Morehead State used a 16-6 upper-hand in made free throws to its advantage as well.

It was only the third time in program history the teams had met in an OVC Tournament setting.

Morehead State improved to 21-7 in 2020-21, the fourth most wins in program history.

Morehead State out-rebounded the Redhawks 38-29, the 21st game out-rebounding an opponent.

The Eagles will play either No. 3 Eastern Kentucky or No. 6 Austin Peay in the semifinals Friday night at 10:30 p.m. ET.
