After opening its flagship indoor farm in Morehead late last year, AppHarvest is sending out its first-ever harvest of beefsteak tomatoes this week.
Company officials made the announcement during a virtual press conference held Tuesday morning. AppHarvest’s produce will first be available in select national retailers such as Kroger, Publix, Walmart, Food City and Meijer.
In attendance at the press conference was television personality and AppHarvest board member Martha Stewart. She says the company’s mission to bring quality and affordable produce to American families is one that needs to be addressed right now.
AppHarvest currently has two more facilities under construction near Richmond and Berea. The Morehead facility is expected to generate around 45 million pounds of tomatoes alone annually.
