With the rapid spread of technology, children have more access to the internet than ever before. Unfortunately, this also means child predators have a much easier time contacting potential victims.
However, law enforcement in the Commonwealth have worked to make cyberspace a safer place for all of Kentucky’s children. In October alone Kentucky State Police made three arrests all related to child sex abuse material.
Governor Andy Beshear said he wants to send a loud and clear message to anyone who would harm children.
“Our message is clear. If you prey on children online or in-person, we will find you, we will arrest you, we will incarcerate you. Because we want to keep every one of Kentucky’s children safe, we will not stop until we find you,” said Beshear.
Additionally, the KSP Electronic Crime Branch has partnered with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky to produce a series of videos with tips to help parents keep their kids safe online.
Governor Andy Beshear said it is important that members of the community work together to keep children safe. He added everybody can do a part to stop the abuse and exploitation of children.
“If you see something, say something,” said Beshear. “It is your legal duty to report child abuse, but if you just see something that’s wrong make sure you make a call. It takes all of us working together to protect every single child in our state.”
Since 2019, the Kentucky State Police have arrested 474 online predators for internet-related crimes against Kentucky’s children.
