As the cannabis industry works its way into the Commonwealth, Frankfort officials are watching the regulations they set in place be met by more and more businesses.
Governor Andy Beshear said each day the state is getting closer to delivering on the promise of safe medical cannabis for Kentuckians in need.
“It has been 296 days since the patient application system launched. In that time more than 21,000 electronic certifications have been issued to eligible patients. And now, over 15,000 Kentuckians have been approved as card holders,” said Beshear.
Officials said approved cultivators are preparing their first harvest and safety compliance facilities are ready to test as soon as the product becomes available.
Beshear said Kentucky will have approved licenses in each and every category of the cannabis process by the end of the month.
“The first processor, Bison Infused, is scheduled for an inspection on October 29. This will complete the program’s full process cycle from cultivation to dispensary. Let me tell you, the processors are very sophisticated, it’s a lot of machinery and it’s a lot of science,” Beshear said.
The Office of Medical Cannabis has processed 71 cannabis business license renewals.
