Since its establishment in July of 2024, the County-City Bridge Improvement Program has awarded more than $32 million to cities and counties across the Commonwealth.
In the most recent round of funding, the effort awarded nearly $8 million to support more than 15 projects across the state.
Judge Executive Terry Adams of Letcher County, which received over $800,000, said the funds will allow them to complete a bridge replacement they’ve been focused on for a long time.
“Locally, we didn’t really have the funds to rebuild this bridge like it needed to be, and we are very much appreciative of the program and all those involved,” said Adams.
The County-City Bridge Improvement Program is allotted $25 million in funding each year for fiscal years 2025 and 2026. Funding for 75 projects has been awarded in Mt. Sterling, Winchester, Elliott and Mason counties, and many more cities and counties across the Commonwealth.
Governor Andy Beshear said these projects will have several positive effects on Kentuckians, including safe travel and fewer traffic delays.
“This funds 17 projects in 13 counties and three cities across Kentucky. The majority of the projects will replace existing bridges with brand new crossings. They are 12 bridge replacements and five bridge repairs,” said Beshear.
Officials encourage local governments to contact the Office of Rural and Municipal Aid or their local Department of Highways district office for more information about how to receive project funding.
