Cave Run Symphony Orchestra looks for community feedback in hiring new conductor

Samantha Morrill

Morehead’s Cave Run Symphony Orchestra has chosen a novel approach to finding a new conductor to succeed Maestro Terry Durbin. The CRSO is looking for concertgoers and musicians alike to provide input on the three finalists chosen to conduct the ensemble.

Each of the finalists will conduct a concert starting October 26 with Kyle Elgarten of Coral Gables, Florida. After the concert, audience members will be asked to provide feedback about the concert and particularly the guest conductor.

Lori Baruth is the principal chair clarinet for the ensemble and chair of the CRSO’s Artistic Advisory Committee. She said she is excited about the community becoming more involved in the workings of the Orchestra.

“We really are hoping we can continue building and growing and making all the audience members, and therefore our community members, feel like this is their orchestra,” said Baruth.

Baruth said she and other members of the orchestra look forward to receiving honest feedback from the many members of the community who make these concerts possible.

“We are definitely going to take into strong consideration all of the comments we get, so we are looking for some good feedback.” she said. “We want people to come to the concerts, and we want people to give us some good, honest feedback.”

Season tickets for CRSO go can be purchased at a discounted rate when bought on or before October 26.
