Gateway Area Development District aims to bolster northeastern Kentucky’s workforce

Gateway Area Development District

The Gateway Area Development District is working with TENCO Career Center to provide workforce opportunities for residents of northeastern Kentucky. The TENCO workforce development board, based out of Maysville, relies on the development district to provide services to anybody in their ten-county service area who is looking for work.

Joshua Farrow, executive director of the development district, said the program, in its simplest form, works to find people the jobs they want. He added they also help adults in the workforce go back to school to further their education if they qualify.

“Based on program qualifications they may qualify for tuition assistance or various other support that we may be able to give them,” said Farrow.

Farrow added that the initiative also works with employers in the region to connect them with local candidates to fill vacant positions.

“From a business services standpoint, we work with local businesses,” he said. “We can assist them with putting on job fairs, career fairs and just doing various other outreach to try and support the needs of the businesses.”
