The city of Morehead is celebrating fire prevention this week. The city has teamed up with the American Red Cross Association to install up to three smoke detectors in any interested residents’ homes.
Jarred Moore, Rowan County Emergency Management Director, said they’re installing the alarms for free while supplies last.
“We really don’t have a maximum number to be installed this weekend, we have a trailer full of smoke detectors, and we hope to be able to utilize all of them and install all of them in homes,” Moore said.
He said as a fireman he has seen smoke detectors save families lives firsthand. This event comes as the city begins groundbreaking on the building site of the new fire department station.
Moore said the city’s first responders are working in partnership the American Red Cross Association.
“Red Cross is doing all the donations of all the smoke detectors. They are feeding the volunteers who are going to be out in the communities in their own fire districts installing these smoke detectors in homes. We really hope that people take advantage of this,” Moore said.
Installation services will be offered from nine a.m. to four p.m. on Saturday, October 4.
More information on how to apply is available on the Morehead Kentucky City Government Facebook page.
