Recently Governor Andy Beshear shared plans to provide more resources to Kentuckians with disabilities. The Commonwealth’s Centers for Independent Living provides skills training, peer counseling, and career services regionally.
Officials said an expansion of the Center’s services will begin on July 1 and will make services available in all 120 Kentucky counties. Governor Beshear says making opportunities to live fulfilling lives possible for everyone is a priority.
“Currently, Kentucky’s Center for Independent Living only covers 49 counties. We want to make sure that these services are available to every individual and every family that needs it, and that they’re close to home,” said Beshear.
Governor Beshear said this expansion is possible through local collaboration.
“Currently there are five physical centers in the state. They’re in Bowling Green, Hazard, Lexington, Louisville, and Murray. Although no new physical offices are planned at this time, services will be available virtually through our local community resources and partners, such as libraries,” said Beshear.
The Centers for Independent Living Network aims to help disabled Kentuckians contribute to their communities through career services and peer counseling.
