Farm operators in 29 Kentucky counties are eligible to be considered for Farm Service emergency loan assistance due to drought conditions. The counties were designated natural disaster areas by the US Department of Agriculture. Some are eligible because of their proximity to drought areas.
Governor Andy Beshear said farmers in those counties should apply for financial assistance.
“This disaster designation makes farmers in primary and those contiguous counties to be eligible for farm service agency emergency loan assistance. Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of a disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans,” said Beshear.
14 Kentucky counties are eligible to apply for 2024 Livestock Forage Disaster Program benefits. The program provides compensation to eligible livestock producers who suffered grazing losses for covered livestock due to drought on privately owned or cash-leased land. Producers in the counties of Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Lawrence, and ten others are eligible.
“So, if you're a farmer in one of these counties, you have until June 1, 2025, to apply for FSA loan assistance, our local Kentucky Farm Service Agency offices can help any farmers who might have questions about this assistance,” said Beshear.
