Mt. Sterling health organization offers non-profits grants to support health equity

Saint Joseph Mount Sterling

Applications are open for grants and vital services support for nonprofit organizations in the region. Officials said they aim to improve health equity and well-being in the Mt. Sterling area.

Sherri Craig, Market Vice President for External Relations for CHI Saint Joseph Health, said the goal of the organization is and always has been helping people live healthier lives.

“We want our citizens to be healthier, so I think this is a way for us to partner with community organizations. There's so much we can do within a physician practice or within a hospital where someone comes in and they have an illness or injury, and we can help patch them up and send them back out but what we want to do is be is working more in the preventive stage,” said Craig.

She said the goal of the grants is to support projects focused on substance use disorders, mental health, and mental disorders, as well as weight status, physical activity and nutrition.

“The ultimate goal is to improve the health and well-being of people in the community, there in Mt. Sterling and Montgomery County. We do a community health needs assessment every three years, and we partner with the community to help us identify what the greatest health needs are in the community and then we partner with local organizations to address those needs,” said Craig.

Craig said the limit of the grants to be awarded in Mt. Sterling is $19,999, and non-profits can apply for up to that amount.

Applications must be for projects that will run between March 2025 and February 2026, and grant recipients will be announced in December. Applications are open now and available online at chisaintjospehhealth.org. Applications close August 16, 2024.
