Morehead Mexican restaurant damaged in fire Friday afternoon

Samantha Morrill

A well-known eatery in Morehead was damaged by a fire Friday afternoon.

Crews responded to the scene at La Finca Mexican Restaurant around 1:30 p.m. At least six fire trucks were called in to help with the blaze and Main Street was blocked off at the intersection of Bridge Street to just past the restaurant. Officials reported no injuries and crews had the flames knocked down in around ten minutes.

Jesus Delgado is a manager at the restaurant, which has been a staple of the community for more than two decades. He wasn’t there when the fire started, but officials told him initial assessments indicated the blaze started outside.

“It looks like it started from the mulch outside of the front door and kind of consumed a tree that was pretty dry and it took off from there,” said Delgado.

Delgado’s family owns La Finca, having purchased it in 2000. Now that the fire is out, he said the future is uncertain.

“It’s hard to say. We were planning on a revamp, a remodel, and kind of invest a little bit more into a town we’ve really grown to care about. We have been in the works for months and hopefully, we can still do that. I don’t know. I guess we’ll just have to sit down with the family and figure it out,” said Delgado.

Delgado said La Finca will likely be closed for at least several weeks.
