Emergency medical services (EMS) providers and nurses have current and upcoming opportunities to enhance their skills through EMS Education Days hosted by St. Claire HealthCare.
The all-day session at the Center for Health, Education and Research, or CHER building, features hands-on learning opportunities. The May 30 session, featuring internationally recognized guest speaker Bob Page, covers topics like 12-lead ECG, capnography, pain management, stroke, CPAP, and BiPAP.
Michelle Brown is the Manager of Professional Development at St. Claire. She said the session will allow professionals at any stage in their career to practice various hands-on skills.
“Healthcare is always changing, and learning is continuous. No one knows everything, and things change, so it’s good to keep up to date with current events and new technology,” said Brown.
Brown said St. Claire’s initiative to provide continuing education has been a great success so far, in part because of the impacts of firsthand experience on quality education.
“It increases the learning experience so much if you actually get to practice that, rather than just hear it or see it. Actually doing it helps retain the learning,” said Brown. “We’re super excited for that, and we believe it increases the quality of care so much.”
Healthcare workers who missed out on Thursday’s session can look forward to St. Claire’s upcoming continuing education days this fall. Two sessions are currently planned for October 29 and November 7. Brown said these will cover similar topics, as well as other subjects required for certification by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. Attendees are awarded eight hours of continuing education credit toward their certification.
