Morehead State hosts the annual Clarinet Day on March 2 for high school students.

Morehead State's annual Clarinet Day workshop for high school students will be held Saturday, March 2, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Baird Music Hall. Check-in for the event begins at 9:30 a.m.

The guest artist at this year's event is Ixi Chen, clarinet professor at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Born in Taiwan and raised in California, Chen enjoys an active career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, artistic director, and educator. She founded the chamber ensemble concert Nova, whose fusion of traditional and contemporary elements seeks to cultivate a new audience for art music. Chen has participated in numerous music festivals in the U.S. and abroad and has played with multiple symphonies in Europe.

Chen will perform, give a clarinet masterclass, and hold a clinic about forging a career in music and staying relevant with digital content.

Sponsors of Clarinet Day include Hurst Music, Morehead State Public Radio, Yamaha, D'Addario, Pyne-Clarion, and Buffet-Crampon & Cie.

Learn more about Clarinet Day by contacting Professor of Music Dr. Lori Baruth at l.baruth@moreheadstate.edu.
