Local hospital honored for excellence in technology

Samantha Morrill

St. Claire HealthCare received honors in Digital Excellence from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) for its technology initiatives to increase connectivity between patients and doctors, improve cybersecurity, and enhance analytics. This distinction comes from CHIME’s Digital Health Most Wired Survey, a yearly look into how effectively hospitals use digital technologies in various situations.

Andy Price, the Vice President of Information Technology, Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer for St. Claire HealthCare said the hospital is particularly proud of their Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

“We put a lot of work into our EMR to make sure it’s friendly for the doctors, efficient for the patients, so that they can find the data that they need. St. Claire also has a large network infrastructure; it helps support that. And we have a great analytics department that has done a ton of work over the past couple of years to provide analytical data to figure out how we can better help the population,” said Price.

Price also said St. Claire is passionate about finding new ways to better themselves for their patients.

“Better care, closer to home. Lots of people think that to get the latest in care they’ve got to go to Lexington or Louisville, or Cincinnati, but St. Claire definitely holds its own. We are continuing to make improvements, to provide any service that a patient needs with better quality than they can get anywhere else,” said Price.

In terms of improvement, Price said there is still more St. Claire can do and achieve. He is optimistic about expanding into artificial intelligence to ease access for patients and doctors.

There are ten levels a hospital or care facility could be awarded in relation to this survey, with every rank above eight being categorized as “Most Wired”, a special distinction. St. Claire received a score of eight and has been nationally recognized for its efforts.
